My Therapeutic Approaches
Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that uses the power of suggestion to encourage positive change.
During a hypnotherapy session you will be guided into a deep state of relaxation (hypnosis). This trance-like state is similar to being completely absorbed in a book, movie, music, or even one’s own thoughts or meditations. While you are in this pleasant, dreamlike state your sub-conscious mind becomes open to positive suggestions and change.
Hypnosis allows you to reprogramme your thought patterns, process your emotions, get rid of old, unwanted behaviour patterns and replace them with new, positive alternatives. This medically accepted approach is highly effective for a wide range of emotional and behavioural issues, including pain management.
Solution Focussed Counselling
Solution Focused Counselling focuses on solutions rather than the problems themselves. As such, it highlights people’s strengths, abilities and inner resources and utilises these to help the individual move forward with confidence and courage without worrying about having to re-live the past or explore the problem or issue in depth.
The primary benefit of Solution Focused Counselling is that the client sets their own goals and is guided to find their own solutions to their problems. This approach is highly effective with clients who would prefer not to dwell on the reasons for their current issues and focus on making the positive changes they require.
Mindfulness
The practice of Mindfulness is about paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, actions and responses to internal and external events, giving the opportunity for greater control and more productive choices. This increases our resilience, mental clarity and feelings of well-being.
Mindfulness meditation is at the heart of Mindfulness-Based Interventions (MBIs), which include Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR). MBCT is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for the prevention of relapse in recurrent depression. It combines mindfulness techniques like meditation, breathing (mind and body awareness) with elements from cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) to help break the negative thought patterns.
Mindfulness is a highly effective practice to reduce day to day stress and anxiety and for developing a more positive and productive mind-set.
Coaching
Life Coaching – Career Coaching – Performance Coaching
Coaching is focused on identifying what you want to achieve, setting clear goals and developing realistic plans to achieve them. Potential barriers to your success are identified and clear strategies devised to overcome these barriers to your success.
Life coaching is a stocktaking approach which helps to identify what is truly important to us and how we can feel more content and fulfilled with the life we live.
Career coaching focuses on exploring what is the right next step for us to take and how to achieve progression, development, job satisfaction and improved work/life balance.
Performance coaching is aimed at developing a current skill or ability to achieve greater levels of confidence and competence. The coaching approach is highly effective to achieve a rational, logical, planned and organised change to the current situation.
Usually is it a blend of approaches that has the greatest impact. After making a detailed assessment of what you need, I will recommend the most effective approach with you and explain how it works. It is essential that you feel comfortable and agree with the way forward.
